Cultural diversity at a.s.r. appears to be improving slightly, in particular among new employees and the under-45 age group. This is evident from the Cultural Diversity Barometer of Statistics Netherlands. In order to further promote cultural diversity, a.s.r. joined the Agora Network in May.
The Statistics Netherlands survey shows that 18% of all a.s.r. employees have a migration background. In 2020, this was 17%. Nationally, the proportion of employees with a migration background is 23%. Of the percentage of colleagues with a migration background, 1 in 10 has a non-Western migration background. In the working population in the Netherlands, this is about 1 in 8.
The category of employees up to 35 years of age includes more people with a migration background, namely 23%, of whom 17% are non-Western. In addition, a slight increase can be seen in the number of employees with a migration background who have been employed for a relatively short period of time.
Jolanda Sappelli, Human Resources Director a.s.r: ‘We strive for a representative reflection of society. I think it is a positive sign for the future that the composition of the younger age group and employees who have been with us for a relatively short time is more culturally diverse. I expect a.s.r. as a whole to have an increasingly diverse workforce too in the future.’
In order to further promote cultural diversity in the workplace, a.s.r. has been affiliated with the Agora Network since May. The Agora Network came into being when several organisations joined forces to work together towards a more culturally diverse and inclusive Dutch corporate society. The Agora Network provides opportunities to further promote cultural diversity by sharing knowledge and best practices and encouraging dialogue on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.
Statistics Netherlands has developed the Cultural Diversity Barometer. This barometer can be requested by organisations with more than 250 employees. They can have Netherlands Statistics look at an anonymised version of their workforce and then receive statistics about the cultural diversity within their organisation.
