The porting mortgage from a.s.r. creates greater financial peace of mind during the relocation period

a.s.r. introduces the Verhuishypotheek (porting mortgage) for customers of a.s.r. and Aegon who make use of the moving scheme. During a relocation period, customers often face double monthly payments. When a customer uses the moving scheme, the existing loan is now automatically converted into an interest‑only Verhuishypotheek with a fixed interest rate.

With the moving scheme, customers can transfer the interest rate and the end date of the fixed‑rate period of their a.s.r. or Aegon mortgage to the new mortgage for their new home. If the sale of the existing property takes place after completion of the new loan, the customer temporarily holds two loans and therefore has double monthly payments.

Within the moving scheme, the existing loan is automatically converted into a Verhuishypotheek when the new loan is completed. This Verhuishypotheek is interest‑only and has a fixed interest rate. During the relocation period, customers only repay on the new loan, which reduces the double monthly burden. The interest on the Verhuishypotheek remains tax‑deductible within the applicable rules. This is possible because the Verhuishypotheek is a temporary loan and is fully repaid upon the sale of the existing property.

The Verhuishypotheek is a new component of the existing moving scheme. Previously, when taking out a new loan, the existing loan – retaining its repayment structure – was converted to a variable interest rate. At the customer’s request, up to 50% of this amount could be converted into an interest‑only loan, subject to a € 200 conversion fee. Under the new approach, the existing loan is automatically converted into a Verhuishypotheek when the new loan is taken out, requiring no action or costs from the customer. The Verhuishypotheek has a special fixed interest rate, providing certainty regarding monthly payments during the relocation period.

The Verhuishypotheek is only available as part of the moving scheme and is also possible for loans with NHG. Customers who do not transfer their interest rate, or who switch from another lender, cannot use this option.
