a.s.r. and Teladoc Health provide online support for people on mental health care waiting lists

People waiting for mental health care (GGZ) can, as of today, make use of online GGZ waiting list support via the Zorg voor jezelf app. a.s.r. and Teladoc Health are launching this initiative to provide people with additional support during the waiting period. The support is not a replacement for treatment but helps people to better bridge the period until the start of their regular mental health care treatment.

The need for support during the waiting period is considerable. In 2025, more than 100,000 people were waiting for treatment within mental healthcare services. More than half of them waited longer than the maximum waiting time of 14 weeks. On average, it took 24 weeks before someone could start treatment; for specialist mental health care this increased to an average of 32 weeks.

From today, a.s.r. will approach insured persons who are eligible. Through the Zorg voor jezelf app, the programme offers online guidance from general practitioners and coaches to people waiting to start regular mental health care treatment. Annemarel de Vos, Director of a.s.r. health: ‘We see that additional support during the waiting period is urgently needed. Waiting for appropriate care can be burdensome and symptoms may worsen during this period. A further effect of longer waiting times is longer treatment and, ultimately, even longer waiting lists. With GGZ waiting list support, a.s.r. and Teladoc Health aim to help people get through this period more effectively and to be better prepared for the actual treatment pathway.’

Stefan Scheepers, Managing Director of Teladoc Health Nederland: ‘The pressure on mental healthcare requires new ways of supporting people in a timely manner. Our care can play an important role in bridging waiting times by giving people immediate online access to personal guidance and practical tools. With this initiative, a.s.r. and Teladoc Health are taking a concrete step to help people sooner, at the moment they need it most.’
