On Thursday evening, a.s.r. received the FD Henri Sijthoff Award for its 2020 annual report. a.s.r.'s annual report had already been nominated three times for this annual award of Het Financieele Dagblad for companies that stand out in their reporting. In the category of annual reports of AEX funds, a.s.r. beat the other nominees ASML and Just Eat Takeaway. Van Landschot Kempen won the award in the other listed companies category and Royal Swinkels won in the unlisted companies category.
The FD Henri Sijthoff Award is awarded to companies whose annual reports go beyond describing the balance sheet and the profit and loss account. Investors, customers, employees and other stakeholders need to obtain insight into issues such as strategy, risks and dilemmas, according to the jury. Companies must also indicate what they are doing in relation to social issues.
Jos Baeten, CEO of a.s.r.: ‘After the 4th nomination in 5 years, it is nice to receive recognition in the form of this award. It was an honor to receive the award on behalf of the many colleagues who work on the annual report. The jury complimented a.s.r. for the way in which we continue to improve our annual report year after year, for example by paying a lot of attention this year to personnel developments in addition to all financial data.’
Jury
The jury praises the high level of financial reporting and communication by companies. Sustainability is also often an integral part of the reporting, and this year more attention was given to cybersecurity. This year, the members of the jury were also more critical of the risk sections, the quality of which is still often inadequate.
