a.s.r. reports strong full-year 2023 results
Jos Baeten, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO: ‘Today marks the first time that a.s.r. publishes results including the contribution of Aegon Nederland in the second half of 2023. The financial results show strong increases across the various business segments, primarily driven by the addition of the Aegon Nederland activities. Since the successful closing of the transaction with Aegon, the integration and execution runs consistently as planned. Experience to date confirms the strong strategic and financial benefits of the transaction. Whilst executing our integration plan to become the leading insurer in the Netherlands, we remain strongly focused on our customers. a.s.r. remains committed to a sustainable society and a world in which our children and their children can grow up. We do this with the support of our shareholders, the great commitment of our employees and the trust placed in us by our customers and advisers. For that, I am very grateful.’
- Operating result increased by € 311 million to € 1,117 million in 2023 (2022: € 805 million).
- Operating return on equity amounted to 12.4% (2022: 10.6%).
- On 31 December 2023, the Solvency II ratio stood at 176% (31 December 2022: 221%). The direct effect of the inclusion of Aegon Nederland amounted to -31%-points.
- Organic capital creation increased by € 285 million to € 938 million (2022: € 653 million), equal to an impact of 14%-points of the Solvency II ratio.
- Proposed dividend for full year 2023 increased to € 2.89 per share (2022: € 2.70). The final dividend amounted to € 1.81 per share, taking into account the interim dividend of € 1.08 per share already distributed.

A total of 19 insurers and reinsurers worldwide have joined this initiative. FIT builds upon the efforts of the Net-Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA). It provides a broader platform for collaboration and innovation and a.s.r. is one of the three Dutch insurers actively participating. a.s.r. hereby reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable and climate-neutral insurance sector.

18 Apr 2024500 a.s.r. employees roll up their sleeves on first “Doenkracht Donderdag”Across the Netherlands, 500 a.s.r. employees will participate in activities on Thursday, April 18, during Doenkracht Donderdag (“Doenkracht Thursday”). On this day, employees will step away from their usual tasks and wholeheartedly engage in volunteer work across 6 of a.s.r.’s 7 business cities. a.s.r.’s social organisation, Doenkracht, collaborates with various organisations in and around these cities that can benefit from external help. This initiative marks the first time a.s.r. is organising such an event, drawing inspiration from Aegon Nederland, which previously introduced Vrijwilligerswerk Vrijdag (“Volunteering on Friday”). The commitment to community activities aligns with a.s.r.’s mission to empower individuals in the Netherlands to make informed financial decisions, fostering greater financial awareness, savvy, and resilience.
